11 markets to participate in Verizon’s 5G test
According to a company press release, Verizon customers in the following 11 markets will get access to 5G networks during the first half of 2017:
- Ann Arbor
- Atlanta
- Bernardsville (NJ)
- Brockton (MA)
- Dallas
- Denver
- Houston
- Miami
- Sacramento
- Seattle
- Washington, D.C.
The test, which is being termed ‘pre-commercial’ because it’s not yet ready for full rollout, puts Verizon slightly ahead of AT&T in the race to 5G.
AT&T currently has a business-customer trial of 5G under way in Austin, Texas. Also on tap for AT&T is a 5G DirecTV Now trial by mid-2017.
Just how fast is 5G?
Estimates suggest that 5G could be up to 1,000 times faster than current 4G speeds. That means you could download a feature-length movie in one second, according to one report!
