According to Racked.com, vanity sizing is the reason why you can go to two different stores and be two totally different sizes. The thinking is that people want to feel slim, so larger items are given smaller sizes.

Report: Clothing brands are guilty of vanity sizing

The social shopping network Fitbay teamed up with Racked.com a couple years ago to reveal the worst offenders based on vanity sizing data from 100,000 people.

For women, Loft and J.Crew ran large, so you may need to buy a size smaller there.

On the other hand, ladies who shop at retailers like Forever 21 and Zara may need to buy one size up because the clothing can run small.
