Before requesting a ride, cardholders must enter the code AMEXAIRPORT and select their American Express card as payment. The $65 will be automatically deducted at the end of the trip. The offer can be redeemed twice during the promotional period — but you can only score a free ride on the way home from the airports listed above. Returning rides will not qualify.

The promotion is available to anyone with an American Express credit card or charge card; the issuer’s prepaid cardholders are not eligible. The promotion can’t be combined with other offers or promos. You can find the full terms and conditions on American Express’ website.

The Uberfication of credit cards

American Express and Uber launched a partnership back in 2014 that entitles eligible cardholders to twice the Membership Rewards points on their rides. American Express is not the only issuer, however, to offer perks with the popular ride-sharing service.

Capital One is currently offering Quicksilver Cash Rewards credit cardholders $15 worth of Uber credits when they book nine rides and pay with their card (the offer expires March 2017, and you can read a full review of the Capital One Quicksilver here). And Chase is offering its credit cardholders a free Uber ride worth up to $30 when they use their card to set up a new account with the ride-sharing service through December 31. (To score that promotion, you must use the code Chase: Uber.)

Plus, a few credit cards, including the new Chase Sapphire Reserve and Citi’s ThankYou Premier card offer bonus points on travel expenses, which include Uber rides.

Thinking of applying for a card?

Remember, it’s important to read the terms and conditions of any card you’re considering to be sure it’s right for you. You’ll also want to check your credit. Many rewards credit card require a good credit score, so you’ll want to be sure you can qualify before filling out an application. Otherwise you’re risking a hard inquiry only to be rejected.
