A Russian bank is testing a new ATM that’s designed to completely eliminate identity theft.
The ATM has a built-in lie detector that’s coupled with voice recognition software. It also takes electronic impression of fingerprints. And it uses 3D scans for facial recognition, in addition to scanning passports or other pieces of identification.
How would you feel about an ATM having all that scoop on you?!
I think back to when our airports had a weak version of the Trusted Traveler program. I had to undergo a retinal scan, a scan of my fingerprints and a background check to enroll in the program. Then when I was at a participating airport, I would go to a kiosk and have my handprint scanned to verify I was who I said I was. Following that, I went in an expedited line for security.
Now the U.S. government is trying this idea again for frequent international travelers. They should be able to race through customs and immigration.
The whole biometrics thing weirds some people out. But for me, I think it’s a good thing. Our privacy is already intruded on in so many different ways that it doesn’t bother me at all.
