Restaurants nationwide shut down for several hours today to talk to employees about food safety and what the company is doing to improve it — after the company battled an E. coli outbreak in 6 states and faced a criminal investigation as a result. Then the company’s stock plummeted, so Chipotle it is now trying to work its way out of a deep hole caused by public awareness of the its problems with food-borne illness.

But, Chipotle now says the E. coli problem has been resolved, and the company wants to invite you back in for a visit to one of its stores with an offer of a free burrito. Chipotle CEO Steve Ells said, ‘We know that Chipotle is as safe as it’s ever been before.’
