Discount airline announces ‘child-free’ zones

If you’ve ever sat through a nightmare flight next to a screaming or restless child, you might be interested in what one budget airline is doing.

IndiGo, which is based in India, has introduced child-free zones on all of its flights.

In a statement to Clark.com, the carrier said, “IndiGo endeavors to extend courteous and hassle free experience to all passengers (that includes both leisure and corporate travelers) who wish to fly with the airline.”

According to the policy, rows 1 to 4 and 11 to 14 are designated quiet zones so that business travelers can do their work without interruption.

The airline avoids seating children below the age of 12 in these rows, which are near emergency exits.

The reason why we’re telling you about this policy from India is because there’s been a lot of chatter on social media about it here in the United States. 

Some parents say the policy is discriminatory, but others would like other airlines to adopt it.

While there are no plans for U.S.-based airlines to follow this example, you might want to listen to the advice of a JetBlue pilot for a better flight.

In the video below, he said the quietest seats on an airplane are forward of the wings because the engines are located under the wings.

“Sitting in front of the wing is like being behind a speaker. All of the sounds of the engine and the disturbed air are projected away from you,” the pilot said.

For a more peaceful ride, he said you should snag a seat in the front of the cabin.
