Apple to replace bad iPhone 6s batteries

According to an Apple support page, only a “very small number” of iPhone 6S devices manufactured between September and October 2015 have this issue.

So how do you know if your phone is eligible? In its initial announcement, the company suggested that you take a trip to the Apple Store, but now you can use a serial number checker on Apple’s website.

So find your serial number by navigating to Settings > General > About and enter it into the serial number checker.

If yours is a match, go to the Apple Store to have someone look at your device. In fact, you may want to make an appointment. And again, eligible users will receive a new battery for free.

Before you get your battery replaced, Apple says you need to complete the following steps:

  • Back up your data to iTunes or iCloud.
  • Turn off Find my iPhone
  • Erase data and settings in Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings

If your iPhone has any damage that may affect the replacement of the battery, such as a cracked screen, you’ll need to fix that before Apple will replace the battery.
